Ing to the Comptroller, there is no provision for the cessation of property taxes at any stage. However, there is a Texas property tax exemption for people over the age of 65, which offers temporary tax relief for seniors. At the age of 65, seniors can apply for an exemption from Texas property taxes.

To apply for an exemption, call the Bexar Appraisal District at 210-224-2432. You may also contact their agency directly by email or visit their website to obtain the necessary forms. The exemption will be forwarded to the tax office as soon as the Appraisal District updates their records.

If property owners need more information or want the forms needed to protest their value, they may visit the Bexar Appraisal District website at .bcad or call them at (210) 242-2432. They can also email the appraisal district at cs@bcad.

Persons with a residence homestead are entitled to a 20% exemption of the market valuation of their home.

The Online Services Portal is available to ALL owners that would like to conduct business with the Appraisal District electronically. This service includes filing an exemption on your residential homestead property, submitting a Notice of Protest, and receiving important notices and other information online.

The Tax Code places a tax limitation or ceiling on school district taxes for a property owner who is receiving the age 65 or older or disabled residence homestead exemption. The tax ceiling continues for age 55 or older surviving spouses of individuals who die while qualified for the tax ceiling.

In addition to the senior freeze tax, Texas also allows senior homeowners to defer their property taxes until their estates are settled after their death. To qualify for this program, the homeowner must be 65 years or older, have a limited income, and own and occupy the home as their primary residence.
