The ONLY way to be ENTIRELY removed from The UMC is transfer. This is grounded in our theology of baptism and membership.Go to your pastor and ask him or her to look at the Book of Discipline and what the requirements are for excommunication. The Book of Discipline provides that members can be removed from the membership role if they "transfer, die or have withdrawn from membership." If the member does not comply with any of the available alternatives over a period of two years, the member's name may be removed. A lay respondent shall be entitled to select a lay member or clergyperson from the Global. Methodist Church to serve as respondent's counsel. Reject preferential treatment in the church on the basis of wealth and income. Your vows of membership are honored regardless of denominational affiliation. Your membership is recorded in our local TWMC church database.
