A letter of deletion is a letter from the creditor or collection agency that goes directly to the credit bureau. The letter explains that the collection report was an error and that the collection line should be removed from your report.

It works only if you don't owe the debt, or the collection agency fails to verify the debt within 30 days. Sometimes the collection agency keeps a debt on your credit report past seven years. In this case, you can write them with proof of when delinquency started to have it removed.
