A Letter of Recommendation is required for those who are to be a Godparent for Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation. The pastor must follow the Code of Canon Law, stating that you are in good standing with the Church in order to give the Letter of Recommendation.

Using Proper Salutations and Closings When beginning and ending your letter, use appropriate salutations and closings. Begin your letter with a formal greeting such as “Dear Church Members”. End your letter with a blessing or prayer, such as “May God Bless You” or “In Christ's Love”.

Generally, you should ask your current pastor. However, if you have recently changed pastors, you may ask the pastor who served you previously if that person knows you better. If your pastor is a close relative of yours, he may at his discretion ask an elder or similar person to write the letter in his place.
