This document certifies that a building is fit to be occupied and that it meets the minimum requirements of the building code and the zoning regulations. You need a CO when you are moving into a new, or renovated building.

Failure to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy before occupying a building is a violation of Texas Local Government Code 233.064 and may result in penalties.

A person shall not demolish or begin demolition of a structure or part of a structure without obtaining a master permit for demolition work from Building Inspection. A PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR: Demolition of a fence or swimming pool.
