2.3. 1 Under the Act, the minimum period of notice for any General Meeting is 14 clear days.

Procedure to Hold an AGM The company must give a clear 21 days' notice to its members for calling the AGM. The notice should mention the place, the date and day of the meeting, and the hour at which the meeting is scheduled. The notice should also mention the business to be conducted at the AGM.

If it is a meeting you are expected to be prepared for or need to present in then you need to be organised. If it is with higher up staff or clients then at least 24 business hours is more than reasonable so you don't look like an idiot.

Solution: Give advance notice of meetings. If you are the project manager, set an example by scheduling meetings with as much advance notice as possible. A minimum of a few days is good, but a week or more advance notice is much better.

How much notice must be given? The general rule is that at least 21 days' notice must be given, although constitutions may specify longer. More than 28 days' notice must be given for listed companies regardless of what the company constitution says (s 249HA).
