You should make a written request to your child's teacher, principal or special education administrative office. You should specifically ask for an IEP Review in your written request. Cal. Ed.
Each letter you write should include the following basic information: Put the date on your letter. Give your child's full name and the name of your child's main teacher or current class placement. Say what you want, rather than what you don't want. Give your address and a daytime phone number where you can be reached.
Talking about the IEP or the needs of a different student is not something that you can discuss in an IEP meeting. Not only are IEPs legal documents, they are confidential. Sharing about another student on your caseload, even if a family member asks about that student by name, is not something that is legal to do.

If you're still worried after you've talked with your child's teacher (and/or IEP case manager), you can call an IEP meeting. This is one of your rights as a parent of a student with a disability. You don't have to wait until your concerns are dire. It is best to send your request for the IEP meeting in writing.
