A “W” on the transcript has no effect on the student's GPA. The withdrawal period extends up until the 60% meeting date of the class, withdrawal dates are shown under the Registration tab in myBC. After the deadline for withdrawal, grades are earned and recorded. Students are limited to three attempts at a course.

In general, it's better to drop a class than to fail it.

Please refer to the Academic Calendar to review the add/drop period dates: .broward/registrar/term-dates. Drop: A class can only be dropped with a refund during the first week of class. refund will receive a “W” on their transcript. This indicates that the student registered for the course but withdrew.

During registration periods, students may add courses until the actual class begins if the course is not full. After the term begins, students may “drop” courses until the last day to “drop” for a 100% refund. After the 100% add/drop date, students are considered to be enrolled and responsible for the course.

Depending on your school, these may include a "W" (withdrawal) notation on transcripts, which can affect your academic records. There may also be financial implications, like losing whatever tuition you already spent on the class you drop.

A parent can take their child out of school for any reason they please. Unless abuse or something illegal is suspected then it is no one's business why a parent signs their child out.

When a student reaches 16 years of age he/she is no longer required to attend school if he/she files the required formal declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment with the school district and the declaration is signed by the parent.

Although you can withdraw by phone, letter or in person, we recommend a letter as a hard-copy option that can be used if any legal problems arise.

Attendance Information Regular attendance is when a student attends more than 95% of the academic school year; this may include up to 8 absences in a 180-day school year.
