Although the marriage license is issued immediately, the marriage ceremony may not take place within 24 hours from the exact time that the license was issued.

You don't have to ``register'' your overseas marriage in the US or do anything else to have it recognized as valid here. All foreign marriages are recognized as VALID in the US, unless to do so would be construed as being against ``public policy'' or the ``safety and welfare'' of the general population.

After You Receive a Marriage License New York State Law require that you wait 24 hours after you obtain a Marriage License before the marriage ceremony. If you must marry before, you can request a waiver from a Judge.
