About Small Claims Small claims cases are governed by Utah Code Title 78a, Chapter 8. There are simplified rules for Small Claims found in the Rules of Small Claims Procedures of the Utah Code. The maximum amount you may sue for in Small Claims action is $20,000.
Small Claims court is less formal, and you do not need an attorney to represent you. The filing fees are due at the time you file the affidavit.
Don't say you expect to recover any more than ÂŁ10,000 - if you do, your case won't be treated as a small claim. If you're making a claim for something your landlord hasn't repaired, the maximum amount you can get in a small claims case is ÂŁ1,000.
If you have been served with a Petition for Divorce, and there's something in the Petition that you don't agree with, you must file a written response with the court within 20 days of the date of service if you were served in Utah. If you were served outside of Utah, you have 30 days to file your written response.
