One travel companion may preboard with you. If you feel you need an exception to this, please discuss your needs with a Customer Service Agent at the gate when requesting preboarding.

Southwest offers Family Boarding right after the “A” group and right before the “B” group has boarded. Up to two accompanying adults can board with a child six years or younger during family boarding. Families with kids younger and older than six can all board together during family boarding.

Upon check in, you and your Companion will receive sequential boarding positions except if you purchased a Business Select® fare or added the Companion after you had been assigned a boarding position.

Upgraded Boarding gives Customers the ability to upgrade their boarding position to A1-A15 24 hours before the flight, depending on availability. This allows Customers the opportunity to be among the first to board the aircraft, pick their preferred available seat, and access the overhead bin space.

Just ask for a preboard from the ticketing or gate agent. They're very accommodating. They may ask if your friend needs to sit in a specific seat on the plane or needs extra time. Explain that they can't walk far and will need to sit in the front.

The best way to ensure you sit together (and where you want) is to buy a Business Select fare, upgrade your boarding pass or have the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card or the Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card.
