Regular School Board meetings are open to the public and generally held the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at pm in the Board Room of the DeLand Administrative Complex, 200 North Clara Avenue, DeLand, Florida.

The primary goal is always for directors to plan on continuing to move forward by making important decisions. Performance, strategy and new initiatives are often points of discussion. A board meeting is officially opened by the chairman in a call to order. Attendance is then taken to determine if a quorum is present.

A student conference should be used to discuss a student's performance or behavior. A conference can also be part of a “consequence menu” - it can serve as a step in the discipline process.

School board meetings must be held in a place that is accessible to constituents, must be open to the public, and notice of meetings must be posted in advance so that the public knows when and where they will be and what the intended agenda is.

Most board meeting agendas follow a classic meeting structure: Calling meeting to order – ensure you have quorum. Approve the agenda and prior board meeting minutes. Executive and committee reports – allow 25% of time here for key topic discussion. Old/new/other business. Close the meeting and adjourn.

The chair owns the agenda Who prepares the first draft? Usually the company secretary, the CEO or the board secretary. This then needs to be approved or amended by the chair. The agenda and the board papers need to be sent to all directors at least 5 days plus a weekend, prior to the board meeting.
