When it comes to our military boarding policy, we invite active-duty members of the U.S. Military (with valid military I.D.) who did not receive an “A” boarding pass to board between the A and B groups.

One travel companion may preboard with you. If you feel you need an exception to this, please discuss your needs with a Customer Service Agent at the gate when requesting preboarding.

Numbered posts in each of our gate areas indicate where to line up. When your boarding group is called, find your designated place in line and board the aircraft in numerical order with your boarding group.

Southwest offers Family Boarding right after the “A” group and right before the “B” group has boarded. Up to two accompanying adults can board with a child six years or younger during family boarding. Families with kids younger and older than six can all board together during family boarding.

Southwest Airlines has announced that, like the majority of other airlines, it will switch to an assigned seating plan beginning in 2026. Under this new policy, wheelchair passengers will still be allowed to board early, but they will no longer receive preferential seating.

Upon check in, you and your Companion will receive sequential boarding positions except if you purchased a Business Select® fare or added the Companion after you had been assigned a boarding position.

Upgraded Boarding gives Customers the ability to upgrade their boarding position to A1-A15 24 hours before the flight, depending on availability. Upgraded Boarding sales end 30 minutes before departure.
