At age 65 • At age 62 with 10 or more years of credited service • At any combination of years of credited service and age, totaling 80 points. Example: If you have 31 years of credited service and you are 49 years of age, you will be eligible for a normal retirement because you have 80 points (49 + 31 = 80).
This is a provision that allows you to retire with benefits beginning immediately if you have ten years of service and have reached the Minimum Retirement Age (at least 55). However, the annuity is reduced for each month you are under age 62.

If you were born before 1948, then you can retire at 55. If you were born in 1970 or later, you can enjoy minimum retirement at 57. And if you were born between 1948 and 1970, your minimum retirement age will be between 55 and 2 months and 56 and 10 months.
You must work at least 5 years with the Federal Government before you are eligible for a FERS Federal Pension, and for every year you work, you will be eligible for at least 1% of your High-3 Average Salary History.
