The demonstrations began on April 15, when Chinese students gathered in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, where so many student and mass demonstrations had taken place since the early 20th century, to mark the death of the popular pro-reform Chinese leader Hu Yaobang.

Hillsborough Leisure Centre is situated on tone Road at grid reference SK335902. It was built in 1989 by the structural engineers William Saunders & Partners for the 1991 World Student Games. The centre is run by Sheffield International Venues and features a large leisure pool (slides, flumes, features etc.)
An impressive domed, circular bandstand was built just above the lake, (photograph on Picture Sheffield) where open air concerts were given, the bandstand stood until the 1950s when it was demolished. In 1901 boundary extensions brought the park within the city and it was officially opened on 8 August 1892.
