What is the Washington Wage Recovery Act? Senate Bill 5355, commonly referred to as the Washington Wage Recovery Act, allows employees to put a lien on their employer's property so they may pursue their unpaid wages. A lien is a claim against assets that you can use as collateral to repay a debt.

California Requirements California Unemployment Insurance Code 1089 requires employers to give a written Notice to Employee as to Change in Relationshipopens in a new tab form to all discharged or laid off employees immediately upon termination.

An employer does not have to give you advance notice of termination. There are 3 exceptions to this: If you and your employer changed your rights by entering into an agreement. (See sections on Individual Employment Agreements, Implied Employment Contracts, and Collective Bargaining Agreements, below.)

Because Washington is an at-will employment state, employers may fire an employee at any given time, for any legal reason. Unlike many states, Washington does not require employers to issue any sort of separation notice when an employee leaves the company.

(4) An employer can recover an overpayment from an employee's paycheck provided the overpayment was infrequent and inadvertent. Infrequent means rarely, not occurring regularly, or not showing a pattern. Inadvertent means an error that was accidental, unintentional, or not deliberately done.

Consult with HR to ensure compliance with company policies and state laws. Prepare a detailed termination letter outlining the reasons for dismissal. Arrange a final paycheck in ance with Washington state law. Schedule a termination meeting with HR and the employee involved.
