The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. The Chicago Climate Change Action plan and a suite of supporting research reports that continue to shape how Chicago works to reduce carbon pollution.As of April 2007, 177 countries have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations. This plan presents a roadmap that helps illustrate how the MWRD will take various steps to lower its carbon footprint over the first half of the 21st century. In December 2015 in Paris, world leaders signed the first global commitment to fight climate change. This target aligns with the Paris Agreement's goal of keeping global warming to below 2° Celsius (3.7° Fahrenheit). Dozens of mayors met in Chicago to speak about the perils of climate change, announcing their own standards in the mold of the Paris treaty.
