The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 resulted from bribery of foreign government officials by Lockheed Aircraft Company. This Act is designed to prevent the bribing of foreign officials in order to obtain foreign government contracts. Payments to foreign officials for â€œfacilitation,â€ often referred to as grease payments, are not prohibited under FCPA so long as these payments are made only to get officials to do their normal jobs that they might not do, or would do slowly, without some payment. These payments can be made only to secure a permit or license; obtain paper processing; secure police protection; provide phone, water, or power supply; or similar such actions.

The New Urban Agenda was adopted at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador, on 20 October 2016. The New Urban Agenda represents a shared vision for a better and more sustainable future.

International agreements are formal understandings or commitments between two or more countries. An agreement between two countries is called “bilateral,” while an agreement between several countries is “multilateral.” The countries bound by an international agreement are generally referred to as “States Parties.”

Examples of key soft law documents in international environmental law include Agenda 21: Programme of Action for Sustainable Development, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the U.N. Forest Instrument.

Most of these are derived from the two key concepts identified in the Brundtland definition: the concept of needs, particularly the needs of poor people, and the concept of limits, particularly the limits on the environment's ability to deliver people's needs.

These organizations often develop sustainable development goals and frameworks that guide countries in their efforts. They also provide technical expertise and capacity-building support to help countries implement sustainable policies and practices.

Two major agreements of paramount importance were signed at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992, namely the UNCBD and the UNFCCC. >> The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) is dedicated to the promotion of sustainable development through the shared conservation and management of biodiversity.
