The objective of this agreement is to improve animal welfare in the trapping of wildlife, meet the EU regulations on humane trapping of wild species. The Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS) between the EU, Canada, Russia and the US and concluded successfully in 1998.The Agreement sets performance standards for traps used in the harvest and control of 19 furbearer species. The Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS) is an attempt to establish and enforce an international standard on humaneness for traps. Internationally, Canada has signed The Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS) in 1997 along with the European Union and Russia. The very thought that many of our animal kin experience serious lifelong psychological harm should they survive being trapped is foreign to many people. Animal welfare in the North American wild fur industry is assured through the Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS). First, Montana is one of only three states in the country with no general trap check requirement. The other two are North Dakota and Alaska. For those applicants currently assigned to MCAS Iwakuni or currently in a SOFA agreement, this may be not applicable.
