The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 resulted from bribery of foreign government officials by Lockheed Aircraft Company. Structure payments on a per-project basis, and require the contractor to submit invoices. Avoid salary payments, hourly payments, or any guaranteed “retainer” that is not tracked to performance. Specify the conditions for termination of the relationship—and do not make the arrangement terminable at will.

Most real estate brokers and sales agents are self-employed. Although they often work irregular hours, many are able to set their own schedules.
