The 1972 Convention for Safe Containers has two goals. One is to maintain a high level of safety of human life in the transport and handling of containers.The Coast Guard inspects cargoes and containers to promote maritime safety, security, and stewardship for America's ports and waterways. The Convention for Safe Containers (CSC), established in 1972, is an international agreement maintaining global container handling and transportation standards. – Annex I contains regulations for the testing, inspection, approval and maintenance of containers. The SAFE Framework applies to all modes of transport. The shipper complies with The International Convention for Safe. Containers (CSC) and meets all requirements of Marine Order Part 44 related to Safe Containers. The class will allow the student to understand the basic requirements of CSC and also allow them the ability to ask the instructor questions. The convention requires that any container used for international transport must be fitted with a valid safety approval plate (CSC Plate).
