The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 resulted from bribery of foreign government officials by Lockheed Aircraft Company. This Act is designed to prevent the bribing of foreign officials in order to obtain foreign government contracts. The new legally binding international instrument on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction - known as 'BBNJ' - was adopted on 19 June, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States.

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is the international legal instrument for "the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources" that has been ratified by 196 nations.
