There is no federal law or Arizona state law that says employers must provide breaks and lunches. Workers have a right to at least a 30minute meal break or each 6 hours worked in a calendar day. Although breaks are not required, employers must pay employees for time they spend working and for shorter breaks during the day. There is no requirement in Arizona law that an employee be given break time or lunch periods. According to Arizona Revised Statutes Section 23-352, employers are required to offer employees one paid ten-minute rest break every four hours worked. Employer and employees may agree to break down the 10 minutes of rest into smaller breaks, as long as they add up to 10 minutes during the 4-hour work period.
