The law limits the number of hours that minors under 18 may work when school is in session. The Division of Labor Standards enforces the statutes that govern the maximum and prohibited hours of work as well as the type of work permitted for minors.Minors under 14 are not allowed to work, with limited exceptions, such as acting or performing, delivering newspapers, or working in agriculture. Minors under 16 are not allowed to work more than 40 hours per week. All minors between the ages of 1417 must provide "working papers" prior to their first day of work. An Employment Certificate (Working Paper) is required for all minors under 18 years of age who are employed. Between June 21st and Labor Day,12 and 13-year-olds with a Farm Work. The law restricts hours of work and prohibits employment in hazardous occupations.
