All overtime is voluntary and may only be worked by agreement between employer and employee. Maximum permissible overtime is 3 hours on anyone day or 10 hours in any 1 week.

Unlike regular-season games, which can end in a tie, postseason games can't. Overtime rules in the postseason, including the Super Bowl, consist of as many 15-minute periods as are necessary until there is a winner, instead of the single 10-minute overtime period in the regular season.

Presently, no OSHA standard to regulate extended and unusual shifts in the workplace exists. A work period of eight consecutive hours over five days with at least eight hours of rest in between shifts defines a standard shift. Any shift that goes beyond this standard is considered to be extended or unusual.

All overtime periods of play will be five minutes. Fifteen minutes will be permitted between halves of all games. will be permitted between the first and second periods, the third and fourth periods and before any overtime period during local games.

Working more than 8 hours in a day offers the same overtime rate as over 40 hours in a week. Even if the employee works less than 40 hours in the week, long days provide additional compensation. If the long day extends to more than 12 hours, the rate increases to double the employee's regular hourly rate.

Generally speaking, employers can require employees to work overtime without prior notice. However, it is important to note that employers cannot ask employees to work off the clock, as doing so would violate the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Overtime refers to any hours worked by an employee that exceed their normally scheduled working hours. While a generalized overtime definition refers simply to those hours worked outside of the standard working schedule, overtime commonly refers concurrently to the employee's remunerations of such work.

Divide the hours worked in a certain position by the total worked hours. Find the number of overtime hours attributable to each position. Take the total number of hours worked in the week and subtract by the weekly overtime threshold. Then multiply by the ratio of hours worked for that position.

The FLSA offers exemptions from mandatory overtime to executive, administrative, professional, and outside sales employees. To qualify for overtime exemptions, employees' job descriptions have to pass the duties tests outlined in the FLSA for each of those roles, and a job title alone doesn't count.
