Federal Law FLSA states that 14- and 15- year olds: May not work during school hours. Can work no more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week when school is not in session. Can work no more than 3 hours in a day or 18 hours in a week when school is in session.

Minors ages 14 and 15 must work within prescribed scheduling restrictions, as outlined below. Normal school sessions include all days in which the school observes a standard academic calendar. During normal school sessions, minors ages 14 and 15 may work a maximum of three hours per day, up to 18 hours per week.

In the US, the nationwide rule is that 15 year-olds cannot work more than 40 hours in a week if school is not in session. So it is possible to be scheduled to work 8 consecutive days if the total hours are not more than 40. However, there are a few states that may have slightly different rules.

In Texas, they can start as young as 14 years old. Anyone under the age of 18 is considered a minor. Minors must make at least the federal minimum wage — $7.25 an hour.

Federal Laws: Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), 14- and 15-year-olds can work in certain jobs but are limited in the number of hours they can work: - During school weeks: Up to 3 hours on a school day and 18 hours in a school week. - During non-school weeks: Up to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week.

During non-school sessions (i.e., summer vacations), minors ages 14 and 15 may work up to eight hours per day, 40 hours per week. Work schedules for non-school sessions must fall between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Under 16: When school is not in session, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. (Minors 14 & 15 are generally not permitted to work when school is in session) 16 and 17: Generally, when school is not in session, 8 hours per day, 48 hours per week, 6 days per week.

Federal law states that 14- and 15-year-olds cannot work over 8 hours a day, with no more than 3 hours on a school day, and over 40 hours a week, with no more than 18 hours per week while in school.

Before a.m. or after p.m. on any day, except from June 1 through Labor Day, when nighttime work hours are extended to p.m.
