The law limits the number of hours that minors under 18 may work when school is in session. The Division of Labor Standards enforces the statutes that govern the maximum and prohibited hours of work as well as the type of work permitted for minors.All minors between the ages of 1417 must provide "working papers" prior to their first day of work. Between June 21st and Labor Day,12 and 13-year-olds with a Farm Work. An Employment Certificate (Working Paper) is required for all minors under 18 years of age who are employed. Minors under 14 are not allowed to work, with limited exceptions, such as acting or performing, delivering newspapers, or working in agriculture. Allows a minor to start a work permit online. A user social security number or parent's alien certification number and date of birth are required. However, employers of minors under age 18 must obtain and keep on file proof of the minor's age. All minors in this age category are allowed five hours of work per day, and are required to take three hours for school activity and have a single hour of rest.
