The FLSA states that minors under 16 may not work more than eight hours per day and 40 hours per week when school is not in session, and they may not work more than 3 hours per day and 18 hours per week when school is in session. It also has laws around the nightly hours that minors under 16 can work.

There is no limit to the number of hours an adult employee can work under Maryland or federal law. Minors 16 and 17 years of age: May spend no more than 12 hours in a combination of school hours and work hours each day. 16 and 17: May work the same hours as those who are 18 years old. Minors ages 16 and 17 may not work more than 10 hours in any one day, and no more than 50 hours in a week. Maryland. If the employer has a restaurant designation and is licensed to sell alcohol, minors 17 years of age must also have an approved work permit. Maryland has child labor laws requiring special permits and restricting the hours worked but the laws do not require adult supervision in retail establishments. If you are 18 years old, you may work at any time in any job. Once an employee is 18 years old, child labor rules no longer apply.
