What are the hours of employment for minors 14 and 15 years of age? During a regular school week, minors 14 and 15 years of age may not be employed before 7 am or after 7 pm; except that during a school vacation period a minor can be employed until 9 pm.

A. A minor aged 14 or 15 years old can work up to 40 hours a week during Spring, Winter, and Summer Break. They are restricted to work a maximum of 3 hours a day when school is in session, 8 hours a day when school is not in session with a maximum of 18 hours a week from AM to PM.

Before a.m. or after p.m. on any day, except from June 1 through Labor Day, when nighttime work hours are extended to p.m.

Youth 14 and 15 years old enrolled in an approved Work Experience and Career Exploration Program (WECEP) may be employed for up to 23 hours in school weeks and 3 hours on school days (including during school hours). The FLSA does not limit the number of hours or times of day for workers 16 years and older.

Therefore, the minor should obtain an application for a work permit at his/her local school district. The parent or legal guardian must sign the application. If the minor resides in Pennsylvania, but will be working in another state, he/she must receive a work permit from the state where the minor will be working.
