Therefore, the minor should obtain an application for a work permit at his/her local school district. The parent or legal guardian must sign the application. If the minor resides in Pennsylvania, but will be working in another state, he/she must receive a work permit from the state where the minor will be working.

The Pennsylvania Child Labor Act states "No minor may be employed for more than five hours continuously without an interval of at least 30 minutes for a rest break. No period of less than 30 minutes shall be deemed to interrupt a continuous period of work".

The Illinois Child Labor Law (820 ILCS 206/) regulates the employment of minors under the age of 16 years and requires all minors to have employment certificates.
