Any work in excess of 12 hours in one day shall be compensated at the rate of no less than twice the regular rate of pay for an employee. You have to pay 1.5x of the employee's base wage rate.An employee may receive, in lieu of overtime compensation, compensating time off at a rate of not less than one and one-half hours for each hour of employment. If an employee works more than 40 hours in a workweek they must be paid 1.5 times their base rate for all hours worked beyond 40 hours. Most workers in the United States are entitled to overtime pay, which should kick in after you clock in more than 40 hours worked in a given week. Non-exempt employees are entitled to overtime pay at a rate of one and one-half times their regular pay rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Overtime is 1½ times your normal pay. There is no limit in the Act on the number of hours employees aged 16 and older may work in any workweek. In fact, California's labor laws are among the most progressive in the country.
