The employee is under no obligation to work more than 45 hours per week. All overtime is voluntary and may only be worked by agreement between employer and employee. Maximum permissible overtime is 3 hours on anyone day or 10 hours in any 1 week.

Generally, the employee can legally refuse to work more than 45 hours per week normal time and he can legally refuse to work more than 10 hours per week overtime and he can legally refuse to work more than 12 hours in any one day, consisting of nine hours normal time and three hours overtime.

Ordinary hours of work (i.e. not overtime) may not be more than 45 hours in a week or 9 hours in a day. For employees who work a 6-day week, it is 8 hours per day. Any additional hours will be considered overtime for which a specified amount of additional remuneration is prescribed.
