MINORS AGES 16, 17 and Older. Minors ages 16 and older are exempt from the hour and scheduling restrictions.16-year-old children cannot work more than 10 hours consecutive or more than 10 hours in a 24 hours period. A minor aged 14 or 15 years old can work up to 40 hours a week during Spring, Winter, and Summer Break. The difference is the maximum work hours for these minors. Thus, 9 to16 year-olds who attend regular school may only work up to 3 hours on a schoolday. Minors under 14 years old are generally prohibited from working. Youth ages 16 to 29 are placed into a city-wide Employment and Career Services Program or Direct Employment Opportunities with private employers.
