A fulltime work week in California is 40 hours. Anything over 40 hours should be paid out at 1.5x regular wages.In California, you can still be entitled to overtime if you are in a salaried position or in a supervisory position. Any work in excess of 12 hours in one day shall be compensated at the rate of no less than twice the regular rate of pay for an employee. An employee may receive, in lieu of overtime compensation, compensating time off at a rate of not less than one and one-half hours for each hour of employment. Overtime pay for non-exempt workers in California is equivalent to 1.5x the employee's regular rate of pay. If someone who is nonexempt works 40 hours in a week, they are entitled to 1.5 times their regular rate of pay for every hour worked beyond 40. The overtime pay rate in California is 1.5 times the regular rate of pay for most employees. Employers must follow both federal and state overtime rules.
