There are federal child labor laws that need to be followed for minors and then state laws vary as well. Minors, 14--15 years olds cannot work over 8 hours a day, no more than 3 hours a day on a school day and no more than 18 hours a week while in school.

Federal Laws: Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), 14- and 15-year-olds can work in certain jobs but are limited in the number of hours they can work: - During school weeks: Up to 3 hours on a school day and 18 hours in a school week. - During non-school weeks: Up to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week.

Minors ages 14 and 15 must work within prescribed scheduling restrictions, as outlined below. Normal school sessions include all days in which the school observes a standard academic calendar. During normal school sessions, minors ages 14 and 15 may work a maximum of three hours per day, up to 18 hours per week.

A minor aged 14 or 15 years old can work up to 40 hours a week during Spring, Winter, and Summer Break.14-15 year olds may work up to 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, unless attending summer school. From June 1 - Labor Day may work between 7am and 9pm. Minors aged 14 and 15 can work up to 3 hours per day and a maximum of 18 hours per week. Work hours must fall between 7 a.m. Youths 14 and 15 years old may work outside school hours in various non-manufacturing, non-mining, non-hazardous jobs with certain work hours restrictions. Under the FLSA, as well as Kentucky and Indiana state law, 14 and 15yearolds cannot work prior to 7 a.m. Minors 16 and 17 years old do not have time restrictions, but may not work in hazardous jobs such as manufacturing, construction, and similar fields.
