Workers have a right to at least a 30minute meal break or each 6 hours worked in a calendar day. Virginia law mandates meal breaks for minors under 16 years.In Virginia, state law does not require employers to provide breaks or meal periods to employees, with a few exceptions: 1. Meal Break: All employees must receive a meal break of at least 30 consectutive minutes if the employee is scheduled to work 7.5 or more hours per day. However, employees under 16 years are entitled to 30-minute rest breaks for every 5 hours of work. Paid breaks required for every four hours (or "major fraction thereof") worked. Believe it or not, neither federal nor state law requires these breaks. California labor laws allows workers to recover compensation for unpaid wages, unpaid overtime, denied breaks and other violations. And which operate for 20 or more calendar weeks per year, are entitled to a 15-minute rest break if they work between 4 and 6 consecutive hours. As a general rule, and insofar as practicable, the rest break must be in the middle of each four-hour work period.
