Q: If I Work 8 Hours in Washington, What Breaks Am I Entitled To? A: If you are a Washington State employee who has worked for 8 hours, this is two 4-hour shifts total, which means you should get two 10-minute rest breaks that you are receiving payment for.

Important to note is that on school weeks, minors ages 16 to 17 may work up to 8 hours on Saturday and / or Sunday. However, the hours per week requirement still applies. Minors ages 16 to 17 may also work until 12am during the school week on nights when school is NOT in session the next day.

Minors are allowed to work limited hours compared to adults in Washington. In general, the hours they can work vary depending on age, the type of work, and whether school is in session. The work week for minors is Sunday through Saturday and the school week is Monday through Friday.

The 7-minute rule lets employers round an employee's time to the nearest quarter-hour. It states that employers may round down the time if an employee works 7 minutes or less beyond a quarter-hour increment. Conversely, they round up the time if the employee works more than 7 minutes up to the next quarter-hour.

The law does not require employers to give a worker notice before terminating their job. Employers are not required to give warnings or follow any particular steps before terminating an employee.

All employers hiring minors need a minor work permit. The tables below show the hours youth 12-17 years old can work. Minors working on their family farm are exempt from these restrictions.

(b) "Minor" means a person younger than 18 years of age. (c) "Legal guardian" means a court-appointed legal guardian or court-appointed permanent custodian.

Certain agricultural jobs 12-13 year-olds can hand-harvest berries, bulbs, cucumbers, and spinach during weeks that school is not in session. Harvest of any other crops is not allowed, and mechanical harvesting is prohibited. This exemption is strictly defined.

Unlike some other states, South Carolina does not require juvenile work permits. This means that a teen does not need to get any special permission from the state to begin working.

More than 8 hours per day when school is not in session; More than 40 hours per week when school is not in session; and. Before a.m. or after p.m. on any day, except from June 1 through Labor Day, when nighttime work hours are extended to p.m.
