Interrogatories are one form of discovery in a lawsuit. An interrogatory is a written question from one party to the lawsuit to another party to the lawsuit. You cannot send more than 30 questions to another party in a circuit court case. The Maryland Rules have form interrogatories that you can use as an example. You can view sample interrogatories in the Maryland Rules of Procedure. If there are multiple parties involved, send copies of the discovery materials and Notice of Service of Discovery Materials to every party. Each form interrogatory contained in the Appendix to these Rules shall count as a single interrogatory. Interrogatories are written questions that require written answers under oath. Request for Production of Documents are formal requests that a litigant makes on the opposing party, asking the party to produce documents and tangible things. Notices or Certificates of Service of discovery materials should also not be filed with the Clerk's Office.
