A process server in California is required by law to make at least three attempts to achieve personal service. This means the server will try to hand-deliver the documents to the intended recipient at their residence or workplace.

Proof of Service in Arizona The proof of service must be filed with the court. Service must be made within 120 days of issuance of the summons. If the summons and complaint have not been served, the court may on its own initiative or upon motion dismiss the case without prejudice.

The Sheriff, Constable or Process Server must tell the other person that these are legal papers, then leave the papers near the person (at their feet is fine), or by leaving the papers at the Defendant's dwelling with a person of suitable age and discretion who lives there.

In any event, the serving party must mail the summons, the pleading being served, and any court order authorizing an alternative means of service to the last-known business or residential address of the person being served.

If the process server cannot serve you personally, they can leave a copy of the papers at your home with someone of suitable age and discretion. They may also deliver the documents to an agent who is authorized to receive service of process on your behalf.

The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure state that no certificate of service is required when a paper is served by filing it with the court's electronic-filing (ECF) system.

Process Server Registration Requirements Must be at least 21 years or older. High school diploma or GED is required. Required to pass an examination. All certificates are valid for 3 years from date of issuance.
