Veterans with qualifying service-connected disabilities are eligible for property tax exemptions. To receive the 100 percent disabled veteran exemption, you may file for the exemption up to five years after the delinquency date for the taxes on the property.For the 100 Percent Disabled Veteran exemption, you'll use the Application for Residence Homestead Exemption (Form 50114). You can use Texas Comptroller Form 50135 to apply for the Disabled Veteran's or Survivor's Exemption. To receive a disabled veteran exemption, you must either be a veteran who was disabled while serving with the US armed forces or the surviving spouse or child. Qualifying individuals must submit an application in order to receive the homestead exemption. You may file for a homestead exemption up to one year after the delinquency date – usually Feb. 1.
