Other Exempt Property.Fairfax County provides real estate tax relief and vehicle ("car") tax relief to citizens who are either 65 or older, or permanently and totally disabled. Although these properties are exempt from taxation, the Assessor maintains current records and appraisals on them. Applications are available at the county real estate assessments office or local office of the commissioner of revenue. If you claim an exemption, you should (i) fill out the claim for exemption form and (ii) deliver or mail the form to the clerk's office of this court. There are two education tax rates: homestead and nonhomestead. Bills may show one or both rates. Complete Form AEC and send it to us at least 90 days before you file your return. We will send you a letter certifying your credit.
