In order for military members to receive property tax exemptions they must be a legal resident of the State of Florida, have a Florida license plate on their car, have a Florida driver's license and meet other requirements to qualify for the exemptions.

All exemptions except the Deployed Military Property Tax Exemption use the Florida Department of Revenue, Original Application for Homestead and Related Tax Exemptions to apply. VA of 10% or more are eligible for an exemption from taxes on their property up to $5,000 in assessed value.

In order to qualify for a homestead exemption, the applicant's name must appear on the deed to the property and they must own, occupy and claim the property as their legal residence on January 1 to be eligible for any exemption for that tax year.

Florida law grants governmental entities, including states, counties, municipalities, and political subdivisions (e.g., school districts or municipal libraries), an exemption from Florida sales and use tax.

Military Retirement Income Exclusion Beginning January 1, 2022, $17,500 of military retirement income can be excluded for taxpayers under 62 years of age and an additional $17,500 can be excluded for taxpayers with more than $17,500 of earned income in Georgia.

Please attach proof of the qualifying deployment with your application. Provides an additional homestead property tax exemption for members of the US military or military reserves, the United States Coast Guard or its reserves. Must provide Deployed Military Exemption Application (Form DR-501M). A servicemember who receives a homestead exemption may receive an additional ad valorem tax exemption on that homestead property as provided in this section. You do not need to reapply if you refinance your home. For all exemptions, the property must be in the name of the applicant.
