Using the HCAD app to file your Homestead Exemption The app is called the HCAD Information and Exemption App and it allows a property owner to submit a residence homestead exemption application by providing images of the front and back of their driver's license as well as check the status of the application.

Basic information about HISD taxes: Homestead tax exemption: $100,000 plus 20 percent of appraised value. Additional exemption of $15,000 for homeowners age 65 and older, or disabled.

Age 65 and Older Exemption from State Ad Valorem Taxes If you qualify for one of the other homestead exemption listed and are age 65 or older as of January 1, you also qualify for an exemption from the State portion of ad valorem taxes in an amount equal to 100% of the value of your home and up to 10 acres of land.

The Online Services Portal is available to ALL owners that would like to conduct business with the Appraisal District electronically. This service includes filing an exemption on your residential homestead property, submitting a Notice of Protest, and receiving important notices and other information online.

The application can be found on your appraisal district website or using Texas Comptroller Form 50-114. You can apply online, by mail, or in-person at the office of your county appraisal district. This is the same form you may have used to apply for the general homestead exemption in the past.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION Attach a copy of each property owner's driver's license or state-issued personal identification certificate. The address listed on the driver's license or state-issued personal identification certificate must correspond to the property address for which the exemption is requested.

Governor in 2015 the Homestead Exemption was $15,000 and, today, the exemption is $100,000, and $110,000 for seniors. In 2023, the $100,000 Homestead Exemption was permanently codified into the Texas Constitution when voters passed Proposition 4 with 83% of voters in support.

For persons age 65 or older or disabled, Tax Code Section 11.13(c) requires school districts to provide an additional $10,000 residence homestead exemption.

However, there is a Texas property tax exemption for people over the age of 65, which offers temporary tax relief for seniors. At the age of 65, seniors can apply for an exemption from Texas property taxes.
