If you qualify for an exemption, it allows you to lower your EAV. Each year applicants must complete and file Form PTAX-340 with the Chief County Assessment Officer. This will allow you to identify the correct parcel for your owner occupied primary residence. To qualify for the Illinois homestead exemption, you must live in the state for at least 730 days. You must apply for the exemption with the County Assessment Office.
