To file for a Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption you will need: Copy of your recorded deed. Be 65 years of age or older; Own and live in the property as their principal residence.(d) A person who will be 65 years of age during the current assessment year shall be eligible to apply for the homestead exemption during that assessment year. Once approved to receive this exemption, you may be required to file Form PTAX-329, Certificate of Status-Senior. The Chief County Assessment Office has authority to recapture taxable value in instances where property owners have received homestead benefits erroneously. These may include: homeowner residents, senior citizens, veterans, disabled veterans, those with disabilities, and home improvements. Eligible senior taxpayers must complete an application and supply proof of age and property ownership. To cancel your exemption, complete the Homestead Change or Removal form online in the Philadelphia Tax Center. The State of Illinois offers a number of different exemptions for property owners.
