REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION Attach a copy of each property owner's driver's license or state-issued personal identification certificate. The address listed on the driver's license or state-issued personal identification certificate must correspond to the property address for which the exemption is requested.
Any homestead exemption must be requested by written application filed with the Alabama Revenue Commissioner annually by December 31. A homestead exemption only applies to a single-family residence owned and occupied as the applicant's primary residence on the first day of the tax year (October 1).
The General Assembly implemented the constitutionally-approved homestead exclusion by enacting Act 50 of 1998. Act 50 permitted “local taxing districts” which included counties, municipalities and school districts, to exclude from real estate taxation a portion of the assessed value of homestead property.

The property must be your principal residence and you cannot claim a homestead exemption on any other property. You must provide a valid Texas driver's license or Texas identification card and the address listed must match the address for which the exemption is requested.
Form 50-114 General Homestead Exemption Application What is it? This is the form to fill out if you want a General Residence Homestead Exemption, Person Age 65 or Older Exemption, Disabled Person Exemption, 100 Percent Disabled Veteran Exemption, and the surviving spouse version of these exemptions.
Income Limitation The Counties, Municipalities, or other taxing authority may grant a Homestead Exemption up to $4,000 in assessed value.

Mail: Go to Homestead Tax Credit Eligibility Application page, and find the “Paper Application” section. Download and print the form, or request a paper copy by phone. After completing the application, mail it to the address on the second page of the form, and you're done!
