The Homeowner Exemption reduces the Equalized Assessed Value (EAV) of a property by $10,000. EAV is the partial value of a property used to calculate tax bills. It is important to note that the exemption amount is not the dollar amount by which a tax bill is lowered.

This exemption defers, for four years, any increase in the assessment of your property as a result of improvements such as a deck, addition, garage, porch, finished Ground-level, etc., for which the assessor would add value. A maximum of $75,000 of market value may be deferred under this program.

To receive the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption, the applicant must have owned and occupied the property as of January 1 and must have been 65 years of age or older during the tax year in question.
