To receive a disabled veteran exemption, you must either be a veteran who was disabled while serving with the US armed forces or the surviving spouse or child. For the 100 Percent Disabled Veteran exemption, you'll use the Application for Residence Homestead Exemption (Form 50114).To apply, individuals must submit an application and documentation from the Department of Veterans Affairs indicating the percent of disability awarded. A surviving spouse may qualify for this exemption if they are a Texas resident and have not remarried. You can use Texas Comptroller Form 50135 to apply for the Disabled Veteran's or Survivor's Exemption. Qualifying veterans are entitled to an exemption of the total appraised value of the home.
