North Carolina excludes from property taxes $45,000 of the appraised value of a permanent residence owned and occupied by a qualifying owner, if you are an Honorably Discharged Veteran with a 100% total and permanent “service connected” disability, or the unmarried surviving spouse.

Veterans who are rated 100% due to service connected disability or in receipt of 100% compensation due to a grant of individual unemployability are entitled to an exemption from taxation of the total appraised value of the Veteran's residence homestead.

Elderly or Disabled Homestead Exemption Property tax exclusions are available for qualifying elderly and disabled residents. Income must not exceed $37,900. Application deadline is June 1. North Carolina allows property tax exclusions for senior adults and disabled individuals.
