What is a consent letter? A consent letter says the other parent of the child agrees to you travelling with the child on specific dates to a specific location. A consent letter is not required in Canada but it can make travelling with children much easier.

You may have to present proof of age like a birth certificate for any children under the age of 18. Families with children under 2 years old can ask to board early at the gate. Only 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed.

For U.S. citizens, a passport or visa is not required. Instead, a birth certificate and one photo identification card may be used; however, a photo identification card by itself is not enough. For permanent residents of the United States, “Green Cards” may be used in lieu of their passports.

A letter of consent, preferably in English and notarized, from the other parent or signed by both custodial parents. The letter should say: "I acknowledge that my child is traveling outside the country with the name of the adult with my permission."
